Dream assignment - Shooting an FXX-K Evo for RM Sothebys

As an automotive photographer hailing from a small country, the opportunity to shoot a Ferrari FXX K Evo for RM Sotheby’s felt like stepping into a world where dreams collide with reality. I was still in Tokyo shooting the Luftgekhült event when we're finalizing the shot nearby. Needless to say my heart raced with excitement, anticipation and pressure. I would have never said no to such a request but deep down I was worried "What if I'll not be able to make the quality desired"?!
For anyone aspiring to become a professional photographer, securing an assignment with a prestigious name like RM Sotheby’s is a significant milestone. As someone who comes from a small country, the rarity of such opportunities can feel even more pronounced. Yet, this assignment confirmed that dreams can transcend borders. As you can imagine even a shooting like this has it's own challenges but lucky for me both the representative from RM Sotheby's and the owner himself were really supportive making a significant contribution to the successful set this session resulted in.
One of the biggest challenges was to find the fine line between documenting (which is essential in case of an auction listing) the car but staying true to my style and introducing a little bit of artistic view to the set.
In 2017, Ferrari began offering the “Evoluzione” upgrade for FXX K owners, including aerodynamic refinements that improved the down-force by 23% over the FXX K. This 2018 model is part of the final batch of the approx 20 FXX K examples which were delivered new from the factory with the highly desirable “Evo” package. The car is presented in “Rossa Martino” with “Bianco Avus” accent. I personally feel that this car in this (perfect) spec represents Ferrari’s last example of an era where beautiful bodywork met functionality. Something that stands between the thin line of “over the top” and soft, sculpture like shape where form follows function. The car is offered without reserve in RM Sotheby's upcoming auction in Monaco on the 25th of April.
